San Telmo

Map of the area on a street wall

A man buying churros off the street

Street in San Telmo

Street view

A little market in the square

Scarf vendors

Drummers on the street near the market

Graffiti

Plaza de Mayo, with the Piramide de Mayo in the center commemorating the May Revolution the start of the Argentine fight for independence against the Spanish in the early 19th century

Plaza de mayo is a popular protest spot (for ex the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo during the 1970s and 80s who protested their sons' disappearances during the military junta) and you can see on the right protest posters

Our merienda: medialunas (like croissants) in the center and empanadas in the far corner
